ABOUT JANE BRISTOWE

Jane Bristowe is a British artist known for her distinctive linocuts and commitment to wildlife conservation. She began her artistic journey studying life drawing for several years with students of the renowned artist Cecil Collins, whose work is held in the Tate collections. This early focus on capturing the essence of form and movement laid the foundation for Jane’s signature style.

She later honed her skills in printmaking at Putney School of Art and Heatherley School of Fine Art. Her talent has been widely recognized: in 2008, her Rhinoceros linocut was shortlisted for Wildlife Artist of the Year, and in 2010, her Meerkats were exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Collaboration has become a central element of Jane’s recent work. She has partnered with Fox & Chave to produce the Rhino Silk Square Scarf (donating her royalties to the charity, Tusk) and with Bledsoe Bags to create handmade fabric bags featuring her designs. In 2021, she co-created the illustrated book Dear Elephant with Florina Falce, highlighting themes of empathy and awareness around endangered species.

In the world of interior design, Jane is collaborating with Amy Kent Rugs to feature fourteen of her animal designs in a bespoke rug collection, hand-knotted in India. Her work has also been selected by renowned interior designer Sara Story for inclusion in her client’s interior.

Conservation is now at the heart of Jane’s artistic practice, driven by growing concern over the human impact on wildlife. In line with this commitment, she is collaborating with the Born Free Foundation.

Jane’s most recent book, 50 Nifty Limericks & Linocuts, brings together 50 of her own limericks, each paired with a linocut. Published by The Art of Everyone, this playful and visually striking collection highlights her unique blend of wordplay and printmaking.
